What happens when a vampire is lonely and can't get a date? In the short film "Bite Me," written and directed by Jason Michael Fong, we see the adventures of a vampire trying out speed dating. Fong, who also serves as the lead character, Drake Yu-Law (get it?) is an amiable character who is just looking for love. Drake is a lonely accountant who can't seem to get past the stereotypes that Vampires have. He first meets up with another Vampire, played by singer Natalise and thinks there should be chemistry between them because they are both vampires. No luck there so he moves on to a woman who has a fetish for vampires. Too much for Drake. He just wants someone "normal" and on the third try he ends up meeting an event crasher who throws the whole event into a tailspin. But just before things come crashing down into heavy disappointment, Drake gets one more shot. Can he finally find what he is looking for?

The 13 minute film tackles stereotypes in a unique way. Fong's portrayal of Drake is likeable and convincing as a lonely vampire. The characters that Drake meets are definitely larger than life in an exaggerated way but that's what makes the film funny. It's all brought home with Milla, portrayed by Kimberly Chong, at the end with her more level-headed manner and sense of normalcy. Overall, it's a good effort by Fong to show things in a different way.
