When two sets for identical twins who were separated as children simultaneously arrive on the streets of Syracuse, a frantic and hilarious mess of mistaken identity and general mayhem ensues.

We are committed to casting a diverse company. We are seeking actors of all cultures, ages, disabled and non-disabled. All actors must have a STRONG command of classical text. In addition, due to the highly physical nature of this production, all actors need to be confident dancer/movers.

SEEKING:

ADRIANA:
Late 20’s – 30’s. Wife of Antipholus of Ephesus. Energetic, feisty, impatient, with a vivid imagination. Prone to jealousy, and capable of fast and dramatic fluctuations in mood and humor. Her husband’s sudden and bizarre changes in behavior trouble and concern her and cause her to draw some troubling and shocking conclusions about his erratic manner. A role for an actress with great comedic skill.

LUCIANA:
Late 20’s – 30’s. Adriana’s sister. Her looks and easy going manner make her a lightning rod for the wayward affections of many men, and it’s easy to see why. Appealing, thoughtful and resolute. More patient than her sister, she is able to act as a grounding force and the voice of reason for her sister. Doesn’t let herself get carried away by panic or emotion. A role for an actress with great comedic skill.

EGEON:
50’s – 60’s. A world weary merchant of Syracuse. Exhausted and heartbroken. Resigned to a life of unhappiness after being separated from his wife and infant son. Since their loss at sea many years ago, he has been scouring local ports for news of their whereabouts and is even willing to risk death to find his loved ones. This role will likely double with PINCH: A schoolteacher, would-be exorcist, and a bit of a charlatan. Convinced the devil is the one behind Antipholus’ strange behavior, and is determined to draw him out. This is role for a character actor able to create and delineate a line of roles as well as having GREAT physical comedic skills.

SOLINUS:
40’s. The Duke of Ephesus, he knows all of the citizens, and rules with understanding and intelligence. Patient, reasonable, evenhanded. A merciful ruler, he is not opposed to granting exceptions to laws that he finds unjust. This role will likely double in drag, NOT female impersonation, with LUCE: 40’s. Also known as NELL, she is Adriana’s kitchen maid. Saucy, bawdy, covered in kitchen grease. As wide as she is tall. She is in love with Dromio, and is determined to make him hers by any means necessary.

COURTESAN:
20’s – 40’s. Bold, feisty, strong, possessing a strong sexuality which she is not afraid to wield with confidence. Counts her money and knows a good deal when she sees one. A citizen of Ephesus who patronizes all of the local dining establishments and knows all of the local gentlemen.

EMILIA:
50’s – 60’s. Lady Abbess at Ephesus who runs the Priory. A strict and serious woman. Solemn and official, but displays a concern and protectiveness for Antipholus and Dromio that is also warm and maternal.

ANGELO:
30’s – 50’s. A goldsmith. An experienced merchant, fair and honest. A good businessman who honors his debts and conducts his affairs with great professionalism.

BALTHASAR:
20’s – 30’s. A merchant of Ephesus. A friend and contemporary of Antipholus. A peacemaker. Very diplomatic.
