Synopsis:

UNLOCK'D is a richly layered musical comedy about four star-crossed lovers in 18th century England as they grapple with their identity and the confusion of love, while the mischievous spirits around them intervene. Humans and spirits alike are unwittingly (and in one instance, literally) "unlocked” in this Richard Rodgers & NYMF "Best of Fest" (’07) award-winning show, that infuses contemporary pop into a classical score.

SEEKING:
Ethnically diverse, skilled actor-singers with excellent contemporary musical theater sensibility and impeccable comic timing. Comfortable with musical staging. Classical training a bonus.

BARON
20-30. A leading man. Confident. Passionate. A war hero, his world is turned upside down by the confusing and uncharacteristic emotions he’s feeling (read: love). Strong leading man baritenor with falsetto. Any ethnicity.

EDWIN
20-27. Bookish, witty, verbal. Surprisingly passionate and geekily charming. Led by his intellect, he is cracked open by his unexpected love for Belinda. Tenor. Any ethnicity.

BELINDA
18-25. The most beautiful girl in the land. Innocent, unaffected, strong comic ability. She isn’t aware that there’s more to her than her appearance. But there is. Coloratura soprano to high C with mix-belt. Any ethnicity.

CLARISSA
19-26. Smart, passionate, frustrated. Clarissa is certain she knows who she is and what she wants, but she doesn’t. Contemporary quality with some experience in verse/classical theatre. Mezzo. Any ethnicity.

AVIA / GERTRUDE
Mid 20s-early 40s (age very flexible). Sylph leader. Dry. Assertive. She has a mission and it doesn’t involve love. Until it does. Strong comic ability, and should be comfortable with movement. Range flexible, but soprano ability a bonus. Any ethnicity.

ARIELLA / MADELINE / BEATRICE
Late teens-20s. Youngest sylph. Naive, squeamish, wilting. Sweet. Strong comic ability, and should be comfortable with movement. Range flexible, but soprano ability a bonus. Any ethnicity.

ESTHER / KATHERINE
Mid 20s-late 50s (age very flexible). Sexually frustrated sylph. She’s hard up – and isn’t shy about it. Brazen comic ability, and should be comfortable with movement. Mezzo. Any ethnicity.

UMBRIEL / SIR FLITTYBUD
20s-early 40s (age very flexible). Bumbling leader of the gnomes / an effete gentleman. Goofy, broad comic ability. Should be comfortable with a cockney accent and movement. Tenor. Any ethnicity.

BARNEY / SIR INCONSTANTINE
20s. Youngest of the gnomes. Lovelorn, sweet, sincere. As Sir Constantine, a dandy. Just ridiculous. Strong comic ability, and should be comfortable with movement. Character-y Tenor. Any ethnicity.

CALEB / LORD LITTLEWIT
20s-50s (age very flexible). Shifty, mischievous gadfly / overblown, incompetent gentleman. Strong comic ability. Should be comfortable with a cockney accent and movement. Bass-Baritone. Any ethnicity.
