Miss Vintage

This A-Profiler we bring you Miss Vintage, a band based in Philadelphia whose beginnings all started out at a local church and has now blossomed into winning the Bodog Battle of the Bands with an EP to soon follow. The band consists of Jason Min (lead singer), Colin Leaman (bass), Joe Chai (guitar) and Brian Skulski (drums). We find out more about this band and if they really all speak Korean. In the picture above from left to right: (Colin, Jason, Brian and Joe).

If you could only use a music group/band to describe your personality please explain which group and why you choose that group?
Tough question. Our music is sorta like being at a slurpee machine at 7-eleven and mixing in all four flavors so it's hard to just say one band that we take after. So, we'll break the rules and have to give you four. Our music and personalities are shaped by Sleeping at Last, Coldplay, Sigur Ros, and Muse.

Has anyone in the group thought about going solo?
Not really. Colin wants to become a hip hop solo artist one day.

How did your parents react when you told them you wanted to be musicians?
Not well. Well at least for the Asian parents. It's hard to tell their friends that their sons are rock stars. Colin and Brian's parents on the other hand love Miss Vintage. They travel with us everywhere we go.

Does anyone in the band speak another language? If so is it challenging to sing in another language?
Yes, we all speak Korean. Maybe we should write our next song in Korean...

Do you guys know who your biggest fan is?
We don't like to play favorites but Colin's mom is a huge fan. She might be up there.

What's the strangest thing a fan has ever done for you guys?
We were randomly looking at videos on YouTube and found a video where one of our fans taped himself singing one of our songs. We were pretty freaked out and flattered at the same time.

What are some of the perks being in a band?
The best perk is knowing that you have at least three good friends even if the rest of the world dislikes you. But we also get to meet a lot of cool people, check out different cities, and get free food at the different places we play!

Can you describe the feeling you get while performing live?
A very beautiful feeling.

Do you guys write your own music? If so who does all the writing?
Yes, we write all of our own music and all of us contribute to the process. Hard to believe, but it's actually the best part of being in a band.

If you guys weren't doing music what would you guys be doing?
Jason would still be at Harvard earning his PHD, Joe would be teaching special ed kids, Colin would be running a profitable t-shirt business, and Brian would be a manager at Walgreens somewhere in this country.

Where do you guys see your music career going?
I don't think the word "career" fits us. We see music as a passion, and so we're gonna keep doing this as long as we're still passionate about it.

What are you guys currently working on? Will you be going on tour soon?
We just finished recording our EP out in LA during our brief summer tour out there. We expect it to drop very soon so definitely be on the lookout. Otherwise, we're just working on some new material and ideas. We've been playing shows every weekend at different venues around the Northeast and plan to play some shows with some bigger names in the near future.

Besides music what are some other activities you guys enjoy doing?
We all have pretty different interests. Jason like watching random videos on YouTube. Joe likes learning tough vocab words in the dictionary. Colin likes eating boca burgers and Brian enjoys watching episodes of Lost.

How did you guys feel when you won the Bodog Battle of the Bands?
Well it was only the first round, but winning first place is always a good feeling. We're just thankful for the opportunity to play and hopefully we can continue the success with the help of our fans through the next couple stages. It's kinda cool too when you get to play at venues such as the North Star Bar and the Trocadero.

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us do you guys have any words you would like to leave your fans?
Just a simple thank you for your tremendous love and support. We are truly amazed and grateful every single day.
